When is the one-man band of Lars Pedersen . Pedersen started in 1983 under the name Hospital Blimp, but eventually changed the name to When. The band operates within a number of different musical styles and mixes elements from different genres such as psychedelia, avant-garde, experimental, 60s pop, electronica, contemporary music, classical music and noise music. Pedersen plays most of the instruments himself and composes all the music. The band released their debut album Drowning but Learning in 1987, and has since released a total of 15 albums. Many consider this to be When's best album. Strangely overlooked here in Norway, he has nevertheless pumped out one strong album after another. With his unique mix of cut-ups, psychedelia, Arabic music, Aleister Crowley, Beach Boys and Butthole Surfers, but always with a solid and strong pop element at the bottom. As Audun Vinger so aptly writes in his six-track review in Natt&Dag: "The album comes as an inquiry from a parallel world, another reality, where they drive on the left side of the road, backwards, and the goats have human faces."
