Description

Sleeping Beauty's album Welcome To The City from 1980 is probably the release the band is remembered for. Some have also learned that a second album titled Elevator was recorded the following year, but not released, partly because the record company was about to be acquired and ceased to exist for over a decade. This album was never released in physical format, but has been made available on digital platforms afterwards.

But what almost no one knows is that Tornerose recorded a third album in 1983. The band was then a trio with founders Eirik Hundvin and Per Fredrik Kjølner in addition to Per Eriksen on drums. A total of 10 songs were recorded live and some additions were added at Soundart Studios in Oslo in May 1983, but other projects among the crew in addition to the studio having to be closed down due to renovations led to the album being shelved and literally put on the famous shelf. Until a couple of years ago, when the band reunited during a festival and the brilliant idea of completing the album after almost 40 years was launched. They also wanted to include the band's original vocalist Jørn Kalvik in the project, which included adjusting the text material, making some changes to suit the current lineup and adding the missing soundtracks. After some searching for an analog machine that could play the correct tape format, the tapes were digitized in Bergen by Eirik Hundvin and transferred to Per Fredrik Kjølner's studio in Tønsberg, where work on completing the album began.

The song material can be characterized as harder-hitting and heavier than both previous albums and is probably the band's most solid rock album. Many of the songs had already been performed live for a period, and that probably also influenced the result in the studio. In short, this is rock'n'roll that reflects much of how Sleeping Beauty worked live at the time, and is now finally available after 41 years.
