TORE DOLG STEMLAND // LASSE MARHAUG - ALIVE - LIVE RECORDINGS 1998-2006

In January 2007, the record company Smalltown Superjazzz released Lasse Marhaug's album Alive . This was Marhaug's sequel to 2004s The Shape of Rock to Come , which was the album that really put Norwegian noise music on the map, both here in Norway and internationally. Like the subtitle Live Recordings 1998-2006 describes, this is a collection of concert recordings from a period of eight years when Marhaug established himself as one of the most central and active artists in Norwegian noise music. This form of music sprang from several musical branches – punk, hardcore, extreme metal, contemporary music, jazz, improvisation, techno and sound art. Marhaug himself describes the noise music as "the logical end point for all music", which he often performed at deafening volume which gave the music a physical character. The book about Alive deals with these key years in Marhaug's artistry, but also uses the album as a portal to take a closer look at a unique form of music.

Tore Dolg Stemland is a music historian, fanzine editor, cultural journalist, musician etc.
