SÖYR – SÖYR (1977)

Søyr is a Norwegian music group that was established in Trondheim in 1976, from the beginning led by trumpeter Torgrim Sollid. Søyr was from the beginning inspired by folk music from Stor-Elvdal (including Ole Mørk Sandvik) and released Søyr (MAI 7705, 1977) and Čierny Peter (1984). Søyr was created as a further development of the album Østerdalsmusikk that came out in 1976. Søyr played their first concerts in Trondheim in 1977, and quickly made a name for themselves with their improvisations on older folk music. Later that year, the orchestra made recordings for their self-titled debut album, and performed at several music festivals around the country, including Moldejazz and Kongsberg Jazz Festival.
