Serena-Maneesh, led by Emil Nikolaisen from Moi, attracted great international attention with the album Serena-Maneesh in 2005, first released on the Norwegian label Honey Milk, then internationally on the label Playlouder/Beggars before the sequel No 2: Abyss In B Minor was released five years later on the international label 4AD, with Smalltown Supersound as the publisher here at home. The band shared the stage with international giants such as Oasis (Scandinavia), The Dandy Warhols (Europe) and Nine Inch Nails (Australia & Japan), at a number of international festivals and tours, including with Psychic Ills, Bardo Pond and Wovenhand, and also played at the ATP festival "Nightmare Before Christmas" curated by My Bloody Valentine. In recent years, Emil Nikolaisen has Among other things, he has made a name for himself in the form of collaborations with artists such as Todd Rundgren/Lindstrøm, Sufjan Stevens, Brian Jonestown Massacre, A Place To Bury Strangers, Wovenhand, as well as as a producer for Norwegian bands Okkultokrati and Årabrot, among others. The release SM Backwards was released in 2008, and was intended as a kind of introduction to the band's universe from before the debut album Serena-Maneesh . The material here was based on their first two EPs, but in new packaging and versions than previously released. On the vinyl edition, a few more moves have been made. A couple of 2023 tweaks masterfully done by Emil himself, as well as a few other surprises and side shots. So here it really is a treat for both old and new fans.
