RITA ENGEBRETSEN – RITA (1982)

Rita is the first solo album by Rita Engebretsen, known from the Frem fra Glemselen album series with Helge Borglund. It would be 10 years from her debut album in 1973, where she sang on the compilation album Stjerne 73 and 11 albums with "Frem fra Glemselen", before she finally came to the market with her own solo album in 1983. When the record company Talent released the album Frem fra Glemselen kap.11 in 1982, they promoted Engebretsen by, among other things, releasing two tracks from this "Frem fra Glemselen" album as a single: "Fly lille fugl" / "Hawaivise". There were great expectations for Engebretsen. The "Frem fra Glemselen" album series had by then sold close to a million records. The debut album Rita came out in January 1983, and mostly contained translated hit melodies, many from Swedish - Kikki Danielsson among others. The album was quite well received both in the press and among the public, unlike singing partner Helge Borglund's debut in 1980, which consisted only of new songs. On this album, Engebretsen was recognized with songs such as "Barnehjemsbarn" and "Sanger skal klinge" which were in the same vein as the "Frem fra Glemselen" songs. Engebretsen also sings a Norwegian version of "House of the Rising Sun", and she has translated "How Great Thou Art" herself into Norwegian. The album features Pete Knutsen, Henryk Lysiak, Arne Schulze, Terje Mehti, Thor Andreassen, KORK and Hege Schøyen and Iselin Alme in choir.
