MARIUS LIEN // MOTORPSYCHO & STÅLE STORLØKKEN - THE DEATH DEFYING UNICORN
Sailboats and waves. Monsters, sharks and a fearless galley boy. A mad hunt for a hollow globe. Motorpsycho's grand seafarer epic is extremely rich both musically and lyrically. The record was released in 2012, after being in the pipeline for a couple of years. The music was first written in collaboration with Ståle Storløkken as a commissioned work for the Molde jazz festival in 2010 - mostly an instrumental jog, according to the band's own history book. But the jogging trip involved both super violinist Ola Kvernberg, horns from the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra and strings from the Trondheim Soloists. And when the music was finally recorded, the instrumental piece had suddenly turned into a full-blooded rock opera.
