SHOWBIZ - OR HOW TO BECOME A CELEBRITY IN ONE-TWO-THREE! (1989)
Showbiz - or how to become a celebrity in one-two-three! (1989) by Tom Mathisen and Herodes Falsk is, in my opinion, the best example Norway has of a cult film, butchered by the press, but loved by the audience. Packed with celebrities and lines you never tire of, but not everyone agreed. Pål Bang-Hansen cut the film in half with a circular saw on NRK in prime time and Jon Selås in VG said that the film was “totally hopeless”. So why should one write a book about this film? Kristian answers: “I don’t know, but I’m doing it anyway!” This is his absolute favorite film, and he has been collecting information about it ever since he was a little rascal wandering around Lillesand. The book will cover the entire history of the film. From the beginning with the box office success of Prima Vera’s saga of Saint Olav (1983) which led to the making of Showbiz, and right up to the present day where it has achieved cult status. He has already interviewed Herodes Falsk (actor, director and screenwriter), Tom Mathisen (screenwriter and actor), John M. Jacobsen (producer), Odd Ragnar Lund (photographer), Ellen Alveberg (producer's assistant) and Anne-Kat. Hærland (Showbiz fan), and wants to do even more interviews with both people who have worked on the film and fans.
Once upon a time, there were three brothers, Per, Pål and Espen Søplekladd who lived in a municipal apartment on Lambertseter. Søplekladd was bullied by his two brothers and the only thing he had in life was the music program Hip-Hop which was hosted by the beautiful Erna-Werna. Eventually, they were chased out by their mother, and the brothers had to go out into the world to find their happiness. Thus begins Falsk and Mathisen's magnum opus. The story of Søplekladd who must save the Jazz King's beautiful daughter from the evil Synth Troll. Based on Norwegian folk tales, Falsk and Mathisen delivered a crazy comedy far ahead of its time. A story that is a well-aimed kick in the side of cultural life and the music industry in particular, and which describes the eternal battle between the "jazz people" and the "synths".

Kristian Serigstad Jensen (b. 1992) has worked in the TV industry since 2014 as an assistant editor on around 50 different series, and has run the podcast Norsk kultfilm together with Aleksander U. Serigstad since 2021. He has been passionate about Norwegian humor since he was little, and especially the antics of Tom Mathisen and Herodes Falsk. Showbiz - or how to become a celebrity in one-two-three! (1989) is his absolute favorite film, and everyone who knows him has been forced to watch the film several times.
