Description
Johndoe is a Norwegian band from Trondheim that plays punk, rock and power pop. The band consists of Stian Lundberg (drums), Øystein M. Eide (bass), Jonas Skybakmoen (vocals and guitar) and Terje Uv (guitar). In the early 2000s, Johndoe released the albums Ja Takk Til Trøbbel (2003), Pyromantics (2004) and Dødvinkel (2006), in addition to playing several hundred concerts in Norway. Singles such as "Et sunnhetstegn", "Pyromantikk" and "Kjøtere" were frequently played on the radio. Johndoe saw the light of day after a concert with the Swedish punk band Charta 77 at UFFA in 1996. The band members at the time were classmates Øystein Eide on bass, Børge Andreassen on drums and Jonas Skybakmoen on guitar and vocals. In 1997 they got an extra guitar in Thomas Ryjord, and released their first EP, Solen-Korridor-Pliktløp-Våken . The album gave the then 17-year-old band members a place at by:Larm in Trondheim in 1998. The EP also gave the band very good reviews in the local press, and after a lot of concerts the band released their second EP, I Kveld . In 2000 Thomas Ryjord left and went to RIFU and Johndoe as a trio released the EP Explosift! in December of that year. Johndoe 's first three EPs are now only available on a website created by fans. In the spring of 2001, Johndoe again a quartet when Terje Uv joined as guitarist. Later in the year, drummer Børge Andreassen was replaced by Stian Lundberg. Johndoe released the EP Rastløs Rock'n'Roll on Dead Letter Records in September 2002. The release brought the band attention outside the borders of Trøndelag, and Johndoe played several concerts around Norway. The single "Rastløs Rock'n'Roll" was eventually B-listed on NRK P3, and spent 2 weeks on the VG-lista with 14th place as its best position. The EP with the same name was also an entry ticket to by:Larm 2003 where the band was the "talkie" of the year. The newspaper VG named Johndoe to the winners of by:Larm 2003 and the record company Sony Music Norway signed a record deal with the band. In September 2003, Johndoe's first full-length album Ja Takk Til Trøbbel was released . The album was released by Sony Music Norway and received very good reception, both from the press and the public. Aftenposten considered it "one of the better debut albums in Norwegian rock ever". Ja Takk Til Trøbbel was recorded at Duper studio in Bergen where Yngve L. Sætre was responsible for production and mixing. The album was on the VG-lista for five weeks, where a 5th place was the best position. The first single from the album, "Et sunnhetstegn", was B-listed on P3. In connection with the release, Johndoe was also nominated as newcomer of the year at the Alarmprisen 2004.
