The story of Bendik Hofseth's 1991 album IX is the story of how a young, Norwegian jazz hopeful with a horizon of ideas and ambitions far beyond "jazz", met the American record industry at a time when all arrows were pointing straight up. IX was created in a dormitory at Sagene and in studios in Stokke, New York and Randers, during a period when Hofseth was both touring vigorously with the world name Steps Ahead and at the same time was engaged in his own and others' projects in Norway.
