GRO ANITA SCHØNN – TAKE ME AS I AM (1976)
Gro Anita Schønn's career began when she joined the band Sandie and the Shakemen at the age of 16, together with friends back home in Røyken. The group was influenced by, among others, the Hollies and The Searchers. She debuted under her own name in 1967. The following year she joined Terje Fjærn's Orchestra as a vocalist. She achieved great success with pop songs translated from English, including the single "Lutfattig læregutt", which was a Terje Mosnes rewrite of Dusty Springfield's smash hit "Son Of A Preacherman". Her big breakthrough came in 1970 with the song "En enkel sang om frihet" ("A Simple Song Of Freedom"), and the following summer she followed up with the song "Er det onderlig at man lengter bort i blant?" ("I'm Gonna Be A Country Girl Again"). In 1973 her "Eviva España" was a huge hit. The song "Under samme tak", with lyrics by Lars Børke in 1976, is about two people of the same sex living under the same roof, a relatively bold theme at the time. Together with Inger Lise Rypdal, Dag Spantell and Stein Ingebrigtsen, she sang on the popular record series Treff, which sold almost one million copies. There was a lot of commotion when Gro Anita Schønn said in a newspaper interview in 1976 that she intended to go on a launch tour in South Africa. At that time, the international boycott of the apartheid regime was massive. After many negative newspaper reports, the trip was canceled.
This year she also released the album Ta meg som jeg er , which contained the single " Minner Er Min Trøst".
