Description
FRODE THINGNÆS QUINTET – NIGHTSOUNDS (1978)
Frode Thingnæs became the bandleader at Chat Noir (1960) and was closely involved in the Count Basie big band (1975). On the pop front, he contributed for a time to Popol Ace, and conducted the Kringkastingsorkestret. He wrote (with Philip Kruse) the music for the Melodi Grand Prix entries Hvor er du? (1974) and Mata Hari (1976), both performed by his former wife Anne-Karine Strøm while she and Thingnæs were in jury member Finn Eriksen's orchestra. Thingnæs has composed extensively, and is perhaps best known for Wheels, as well as the Flåklypaballetten (1983) at the Norwegian Opera. He has also produced records, including for Bodega Band (1977). Night Sounds features: Frode Thingnæs (trombone), Henryk Lysiak (piano, keyboard, flute, alto saxophone), Jan Erik Kongshaug (bass), Pete Knutsen (guitars), Thor Andreassen (drums, percussion), as well as Svein Christiansen and Svein-Erik Gaardvik.
