ESPEN LIND – RED (1997)
Espen Lind (born 1971) is a Norwegian artist, songwriter and producer from Tromsø. He has released five solo albums and won five Spellemann awards, including being named Spellemann of the Year at the Spellemannprisen 2008. He has produced and written music for a number of international artists, including Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Jennifer Hudson, Selena Gomez, Train and Emeli Sande, and he has had five songs in the top 20 on the Billboard singles chart, including "Hey, Soul Sister" and "Drive By" for Train and "Irreplaceable" for Beyoncé.
He debuted under the stage name Sway with the music album Mmm … Prepare to Be Swayed in 1995. Lind's breakthrough came in 1997 with the single "When Susannah Cries" from the album Red . The song entered the top 10 in eleven countries and was the most played on Norwegian radio in 1997. Lind received three awards at the Spellemannprisen 1997: Pop Soloist of the Year, Song of the Year and Artist of the Year. Red was released in May 1997 and quickly sold platinum. Later in the year, Red was reissued, in a slightly more polished version, aimed at the American market. The album also contained a slightly different tracklisting. It was the Norwegian version that Norwegians loved, but we are going for a double LP with both versions here.
