Eigil Berg – Shadow and sun – 2023
Skygge og sol is the sequel to Eigil Berg's critically acclaimed double album "Nye spor" (2018). The music from the new album also got off to a flying start when the first single released, "Bære over", was awarded with sixes on the dice and the headline "New music from a master"! Eigil Berg describes the music on the album as follows: "Skygge og sol is a collection of new songs that have been in development for a while. Some with a false start in a concert context and others as "pictures in the head", which have constantly taken new turns before finally finding their way to a common collection. The album provides a cross-section of different types of music that I have absorbed along the way. I must be able to allow myself that now. I invite the listener to join me on a journey with open ears where we can go from the most delicate piano instrumental and straight into energetic electric guitars. Here I also reveal several of my sources of inspiration. I started in beat bands in my teens when we were inspired by the British wave with the Kinks and the like, while I also loved the Jobim school with all that heritage. At the same time, the album is blessed with creative musicians in playful interaction and not least with the lyrics from Ingvar Hovland. I feel safe there. I stand behind this – completely and completely.
