EGIL KAPSTAD CHOIR & ORCHESTRA – VISIONS (1968)

Egil Kapstad was a Norwegian jazz musician, pianist, composer, arranger and pedagogue. From the early 1960s he was known as one of Norway's leading jazz pianists, initially strongly influenced by Bill Evans, in collaboration with, among others, Frode Thingnæs, Karin Krog and Bjørn Johansen, and with his own groups. From 1964 he played for several years with the Radiostorbandet, from 1973 he collaborated extensively with Bjarne Nerem, and from 1978–1985 often in quartet format with Bjørn Johansen. He was otherwise in great demand as an accompanist for singers, and has collaborated extensively with, among others, Magni Wentzel, Laila Dalseth and Hilde Hefte. In 1978 he made the album Til Jorden together with the poet Rolf Jacobsen, and from the mid-1980s he collaborated with Jan Erik Vold on a number of concerts and recordings. Kapstad's best-known works as a jazz composer are the commissioned works Syner from 1967, written for a concert at the Munch Museum, and Epilog – Bill Evans in Memoriam for Vossajazz in 1983. The former is one of Norway's most expensive records in second-hand stores.
