DÉJÀ-VU – BETWEEN THE LEAVES (1976)
When Svein Rønning and Knut Lie left Høst after recording their first album, they formed the explicitly symphonic-prog group Deja Vu. The one album they made only received the smallest sample pressing on vinyl back in 1976, packaged only in a plain white sleeve. It is probably the rarest Norwegian prog item, and was a rare gem that few had heard of until its CD release in the 90s.
Harald Otterstad is the highlight of the instrumental combo, and offers some absolutely sumptuous Moog work, but also enriches it with other keyboard sounds. Hammond, string synth and Clavinet. The unfortunately deceased Kai Grønlie is quite expressive on lead vocals, and adds a lot of emotion to the music. The band plays in a style that is reminiscent of Yes if they had chosen a harder direction after The Yes Album. The record originally only came in a test pressing without a cover, so we have based the record on the re-release by Research records from 1995.
