Description
CONVIVIUM – CONVIVIUM (1971)
Convivium was a Norwegian vice group that was active from 1969 to approximately 1972. The four members met in the environment around the Dolphin Folk Club in Oslo. Due to the number of members and composition of instruments, with two guitars, a double bass and a female vocalist, they were perceived as a Norwegian variant of Pentangle, but the folk group was still far more than mere copyists. Convivium was perceived as some of the best of Norwegian visual arts, both musically and lyrically. The band consisted of Øyvind Torp (guitar, mandolin, vocals), Kristi Kinsarvik (vocals), Roger Stokke (guitar, flute, vocals) and Kjell Grønvold (double bass). The lyrics were taken from poets such as Rudolf Nilsen, Olaf Bull and Herman Wildenvey, it was Torp who composed the melodies for these. Convivium had performances on NRK Television, Moldejazz, Vise- & Lyrikfestivalen in Haugesund and in Chateau Neuf in Oslo. In 1971 they released the LP Convivium, which was produced by Sigurd Haugen and recorded in Rosenborg Studio.
