BENDIK SINGERS – BENDIK SINGERS (1974)
Bendik Singers (1971–75) was a Norwegian vocal quartet put together by Arne Bendiksen to participate in the 1973 Melodi Grand Prix with his composition "Å, for et spill". The song came in seventh place in the Eurovision Song Contest 1973 and had lyrics by Robert Williams. The quartet consisted of Anne-Karine Strøm, Ellen Nikolaysen and the brothers Bjørn Kruse and Philip Kruse. After the final in Oslo on 17 February 1973, it was on to the 18th Eurovision Song Contest in Luxembourg on 7 April. By then the song had been translated into English with the title "It's Just a Game". Carsten Klouman was the conductor, and Norway finished in the top ten for the first time since 1966. John Andreassen was NRK's commentator. Bendik Singers also had a hit with "Om hele verden sang i kor". In late summer 1973, Anne Lise Gjøstøl took over for Nikolaisen, but only on loan from EMI. Nikolaisen was denied further participation by his record label Phonogram. The group also won the Melodi Grand Prix 1974 as a backing choir for Anne-Karine Strøm and thus also participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 1974 in Brighton. They only released one album.
