ALF CRANNER – YOUR THOUGHT IS FREE (1985)
Alf Cranner was a Norwegian folk singer, songwriter and visual artist. He is considered by many to be a pioneer of the Norwegian folk song wave of the 1960s. The justification for the award of the Evert Taubes Memorial Fund scholarship in 1994 to Cranner states, among other things: "It is motivating to consider him as the father of his time for Norwegian folk art". He is known for several popular folk song interpretations and melodies, including "Å, den som var en løvetann" with lyrics by Alf Prøysen, "Bare skrap" and "Den skamløse gamle damen" with lyrics by Klaus Hagerup and "Sjømannsvise" with lyrics by Harald Sverdrup. Among Cranner's songs with his own lyrics, "Båt til lyst" and "Hambo i fellesferien" are two of the best known. "Din tanke er fri" is Cranner's rewriting of the German Die Gedanken sind frei. On the album of the same name, he moves a little outside the traditional folk song genre, and has included Lava on comp.
